United Way ASB Challenge

United Way ASB 2009 Social Media Challenge invites young people to join with their local United Way to advance the common good related to education, income and health programs. By contributing volunteer hours, advocating or giving – young people can help United Way make lasting changes in  their communities.

The United Way ASB 2009 Social Media Challenge:

§         Can occur on-the-ground, online, or a mix of the two 

§         Must be student led and designed

§         Can occur on a campus but does not have to

§         Can be a single event or multiple events between March 1 – May 1

Examples of how United Way and young adults can work together:

§         Education: Stuff the Bus/Backpack Challenge –event to fill backpacks or a bus with school supplies for kids

§         Income: Home Starter Kits – donate materials for and build kits with pots, pans, linens, gadgets, etc

§         Health: Health Awareness – a community outreach campaign outreach campaign around youth fitness and nutrition, with volunteers events for healthy play and more

Invite

Phase one, 6/21-6/28

The Cause that adds the most members wins $2500 for their local United Way and young adult programs. Second place gets $1500 and Third gets $1000.

Mobilize

Phase two, 6/29-8/31

United Ways and young people will get active with their cause, learn more about the issue, and share ideas. Causes with the most activity will split $10,000 in grants for their United Way.

Activate

Phase three, 9/1-10/31

Young people and United Way will get active by doing something to advance their cause in their community. The top Day of Action events will split $35,000 in grants for their United Way.
